WHAT SUBMISSION LOOKS LIKE AS A PROVERBS 31 VIRTUOUS WOMAN
How often have you seen a woman scoff at the topic of submission?
She chases after her dreams claiming to love the Lord all while making submission an ugly way of life.
Yet, what God has to say about submission and what it looks like to be a Proverbs 31 virtuous woman is beautiful!
Happy to say, there’s always something new the Lord shines light on.
Stick around as we jump, whole-body-clothes-on, into what it looks like for a Proverbs 31 virtuous woman of God to walk in submission.
TO SUBMIT OR NOT SUBMIT
Indeed, many women struggle with submission to their husbands. It’s true, in the body of Christ there’s such thing as mutual submission, one to another.
Of course, even though husband and wife are brother and sister spiritually, marriage submission takes precedence over the submission of brethren.
Mutual submission of a godly man to a virtuous woman of God isn’t required. Wives are to submit to their own husband in all things.
STRUGGLING WITH SUBMISSION
It wasn’t because I didn’t want to submit, I wasn’t raised to be a Proverbs 31 virtuous woman. I was a worker bee, always taking care of myself.
I didn’t know what the word submission meant.
Honestly, hearing the word submission is like jumping in the sewer. HA!
Gross is the first thing that pops in your mind.
From my own experience, submission is related to weakness . Women have become so independent, submitting feels like going backward. Almost feels like we’re losing or lowering ourselves.
That’s a lie!
Godly submission takes incredible strength and humility. Both of which God speaks of as being massively blessed actions.
Because it’s hard, not easy. Demonstrating the Proverbs 31 virtuous woman by choosing submission is the hard path. And the path to the Lord is always the hard path.
Look at Jesus. His walk to the cross, being beaten through the streets was the hardest path known to man and he was blessed to sit at the right hand of Father God.
Submission is a proven blessing.

A VIRTUOUS WOMAN WHO SUBMITS IS BEAUTIFUL
Submission to your husband is part of your identity in Christ.
Submitting to your husband is a reflection of your love for God by actively doing his will.
Without a doubt, it takes more strength to submit than it does to rebel, and the blessing is attached to the hard thing to do. When a woman submits to her husband God is pleased in her obedience to HIM as the Lord. It keeps her relationship in tack with God.
Essentially, a virtuous woman submitting to her husband has nothing to do with the husband and everything to do with God.
For instance, being a virtuous woman isn’t only when your husband brings a dozen, long-stemmed red roses for no reason. More importantly be that virtuous woman when he doesn’t communicate with you about a 4th of July get together that’s taking place in the next 30 minutes and you aren’t prepared.
Yea, try that one on for size! I can’t make this stuff up y’all.
God is building your character through your obedience to HIM!
God’s design is perfect!
Safety and blessings are in being a Proverbs 31 virtuous woman of God submitting to her own husband joyfully.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT A PROVERBS 31 VIRTUOUS WOMAN
You know, there was a new word I came across during my study one day I hadn’t noticed before.
God is awesome like that. The right words at the right time.
Specifically, the word is Shamefacedness; At first it seems like a negative term. Sadly, if I’d never started reading the King James Version of the bible, I probably would’ve never encountered this term.
Anyway, in 1 Timothy 2:9 we see this word appear.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with [[shamefacedness]] and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
In the other translations, it is written as…
New living translation doesn’t even have a word, they just leave it out altogether.
Anyway, with further digging, I was taken to Esther. Confession, I use to dislike this book. It’s the only book in the bible where not even the word “god” appears. No Lord, God, Holy Spirit, no Jesus, zero variation. There’s no reference to false gods either.
As a result, I distanced myself from Esther. I didn’t understand for several years, until finally, God opened my eyes to the beauty of God working through Esther.
She is amazing right!
GOD IS PRESENT THROUGH A VIRTUOUS WOMAN
So, in this book, it talks about Esther’s need to go speak with the king. But, it’s not proper to go in and strike up a conversation.
The story goes on to explain, she adorned herself in modest royal apparel. She then stood in the court where the king would see her. Here is where they describe her as being shamefaced.
In other words, Shamefacedness is like bashful.
Being shamefaced is an act of ‘not intentionally drawing attention’ but giving way for inner beauty way to shine outward.
It’s like when we’re driving but we don’t where we’re going. You’re reading the street signs, looking down roads as you pass by slowly. At last, you reach over and turn the radio down to see better.
In truth, we turn down one of our senses, so that, it will heighten another. We cut off the need for our ears to heighten the strength of our eyes. Sounds crazy but this is a real thing!
We see, the same rings true with Esther’s approach to the king.
She knew going straight to the king could get her killed so she gives way to allow the king to notice her and call out to her. She obtained favor in his sight.
GOD PROVIDES THE STRENGTH TO BE A PROVERBS 31 VIRTUOUS WOMAN
Above all, this is living life in abundance. Esther gives a shining example of living faith. She is set apart allowing God to do the work through her.
In short, the world says submission is weak. Truth is, God will renew your mind from that wrong indoctrination and replace it with beauty and strength.
God’s Word is ALIVE! a virtuous woman of God who submits joyfully to her own husband as unto the Lord is blessed! Once God fortifies this truth, you’ll find freedom you never knew possible.
He has created perfect ways that cannot be argued against.
I’m thankful for the eyes to see and ears to hear. find freedom to create a life worth living and one god loves by the power of Grace!
As I shared before God is developing new skills and character in me right now. This is just one of them. I grew up fighting and being loud for no real good reason.
If this is something you struggle with let me know in the comments below. Also, Invite this transformation by the renewal of your mind. Amen!
